Pre and Post care

Neurotoxin Pre Appointment (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify)

For about a week before your appointment, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil. These can increase the risk of bruising.

Refrain from drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your treatment, as alcohol can also increase the likelihood of bruising.

Discuss any medications you are taking with your provider, as they may have specific recommendations or precautions based on your medical history.

Do not undergo other skin treatments such as facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for at least a week before your Botox appointment.

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

Neurotoxin Post Appointment 

Avoid sun exposure or use sunscreen diligently for at least 24 hours. 

Keep your head elevated for 4 hours. No strenuous activity for 12 hours. 

Do not massage/touch/apply make-up for the next hour. 

You may use oral and/or topical arnica if needed for bruising. 

It may take 4-8 days for full results to show.

Dermal Filler, Hyer Dilute Radiesse, Sculptra and Kybella Pre Appointment 

Avoid blood-thinning over-the-counter medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve. 

Avoid herbal supplements, such as Garlic, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Omega-3 capsules. Please note: If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of Aspirin. 

Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or any “anti-aging” products

Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated

Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

Schedule your appointment at least 4 weeks prior to a special event that you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area. If you have a history of cold sores please let your provider know, they may put you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.

Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Dermal Filler Post Appointment

Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area. 

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. No strenuous activity for 12 hours. 

Do not massage/touch/apply make-up for the next hour. 

You may use oral and/or topical arnica if needed for bruising. 

If there is a visible bump, you can massage the area. You may feel “firmness”. These areas will soften and settle with time (usually 1-2 weeks). Please contact us immediately if you experience: pain, bruising larger than a dime, or hot to the touch. 

Kybella Post Appointment

Do NOT, touch, press, rub, massage, or manipulate the treatment area.

Ice the treated areas for the next 24 hours. Place the icepack on the area for 20 minutes and remove the ice pack for 20 minutes. Continue this pattern for 24 hours.

Apply (over the counter) Arnica gel to the treatment area to help decrease the bruising, swelling, and discomfort.

Take (over the counter) acetaminophen and/or pain reliever if needed to decrease post treatment discomfort.

Sleep on your back and with head elevated for the next 3-5 days after treatment.

Drink plenty of water and fluids after treatment.

Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 3-5 days after treatment.

Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitami n E or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week after treatment. These items may increase bleeding and bruising.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation.

Please report to me immediately if you develop an asymmetric smile or facial muscle weakness, skin ulceration in the treatment area, difficulty swallowing, or if any existing symptom worsens.

Sculptra Post Appointment 

Book a follow up 12 weeks post injection for follow up

Keep your head above your heart for 4 hours

Massage treated areas (upward strokes) 5 times per day for 5 minutes each time for 5 days following the injections!! This is an important step to ensure best results from your Sculptra treatment and reduce possible treatment side effects.

You may apply a cool compress intermittently to the injection site(s) for up to 48 hours

Avoid excessive sun or heat exposure for 24 hours post-treatment

Do not exercise for 24 hours post-treatment

Avoid saunas for 6 hours post-treatment

If you are experiencing bruising: apply Arnica cream/gel to the area or take oral Arnica to speed up healing.

Hyper Dilute Radiesse Post Appointment 

Book a follow up 12 weeks post injection for follow up

Keep your head above your heart for 4 hours

Massage treated areas (upward strokes) 3 times per day for 3 minutes each time for 3 days following the injections!! This is an important step to ensure best results from your Hyper Dilute Radiesse treatment and reduce possible treatment side effects.

You may apply a cool compress intermittently to the injection site(s) for up to 48 hours

Avoid excessive sun or heat exposure for 24 hours post-treatment

Do not exercise for 24 hours post-treatment

Avoid saunas for 6 hours post-treatment

If you are experiencing bruising: apply Arnica cream/gel to the area or take oral Arnica to speed up healing.

IPL Pre Appointment

Avoid smoking at least six weeks before IPL

Stop any medications that may cause excess bleeding

Discontinue antibiotics (if advised by your general physician)

Avoid retinoids that cause skin sensitivity at least 1 week ahead of time

Drink water before and after your treatment

Remind your provider if you have a history of cold sores.

If you are tan/have been on a beach vacation recently please call the office

Do not use self tanner/spray tans for 1 week prior.

Please arrive with a clean face.

Eye goggles/glasses must be worn during treatment. 

Contraindications for treatment include current skin infections, current skin cancer, current Accutane use, pregnancy, and other medical issues that could impede healing

IPL Post Appointment

Wear sunscreen daily with at least 30 SPF

Keep your skin moisturized at all times

Use a gentle cleanser with warm water at least twice a day

Do not pick or scratch at the skin — blemishes that surface will naturally flake away

Don’t wear makeup for at least 12 – 24 hours after treatment

No strenuous exercise for 48 hours, as overheating the skin can affect the results

No hot baths, hot showers, saunas or hot tubs for 48 hours — warm showers are fineYour skin may be irritated or red and feel as though you have mild sunburn. This is a normal occurrence and you may apply cool, not cold compresses to the treatment site. Apply cool compresses for no longer than 20-minute intervals.

Avoid the use of alpha or beta hydroxyl products, retinols, or Retin A products for 24 hrs after your treatment as they could create additional irritation. After 24 hrs you may resume your prescribed skin care regimen.

Flaking and crusting may occur. Do not attempt to exfoliate or remove any crusting. Areas with heavy sun damage and brown spots will darken over the first 24 hrs after treatment. Some of the red areas may intensify as well. Do not pick or abrade the area. This is part of the normal response to treatment and will clear on its own in 3-7 days. If you experience any open wounds contact our office immediately.

Maintain hydration. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, caffeine-free and sodium-free beverages and keep skin well hydrated as directed.

Cleanse and treat your skin as prescribed. Follow the directions you are given for your skin condition and goals. Proper skin care is essential to support the effects of your IPL treatment.

Do not expose your skin to direct sunlight for a minimum of 3 days. Good sun protection is essential following treatment. If you are outdoors apply a minimum SPF 30 and wear sun protective clothing and headwear. Following IPL therapy your skin is highly susceptible to sunburn or the formation of irregular, darkened pigmentation. Therefore, sun protection is required for life to maintain the results you have achieved.

Follow-up as directed. Your treatment may require several treatments of many weeks to achieve optimal results. Results may not be visible after each treatment but may develop gradually in the weeks that follow. It is essential that your progress is monitored throughout your treatment cycle. Keep your appointments as directed.

Hybrid or C02 Pre Appointment

Have a thorough consultation with your provider to discuss your medical history, skin type, and expectations. This will help tailor the treatment to your needs and identify any potential risks.

Avoid taking medications and supplements that can increase bleeding risk, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil, for at least two weeks before the procedure. Discuss any medications you are currently taking with your provider.

Refrain from smoking as best you can as it can interfere with the healing process and affect the overall results.

Avoid excessive sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily for several weeks before the procedure. Sunburn or tan can increase the risk of complications.

Follow a skincare routine recommended by your provider, which may include using specific products such as retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids to prepare your skin. Stop using these products at least one week before the procedure, or as directed by your provider. 

Keep your skin well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using a good moisturizer in the weeks leading up to the treatment.

Refrain from other skin treatments such as chemical peels, waxing, or microdermabrasion for at least four weeks before your CO2 laser resurfacing.

If you are prone to cold sores or herpes outbreaks, your provider may provide you with an antiviral medication to take before and after the treatment to prevent an outbreak.

On the day of the procedure, cleanse your skin thoroughly and avoid applying any makeup, lotions, or other skincare products.

Plan for downtime after the procedure, as your skin will need time to heal. Arrange for any necessary time off work and have post-care supplies ready, such as moisturizers which will be provided to you. 

Hybrid or C02 Post Appointment 

Immediate After Care

  • Skin may be sensitive and swollen immediately after treatment. Apply cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth to reduce swelling.

Avoid Sun Exposure

  • Protect skin from direct sunlight for at least several weeks post treatment. Wear wide brimmed hat and use broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF.

Avoid Makeup

  • Refrain from applying makeup until your Highline provider gives approval. When allowed, use a mineral based make up recommended by your provider.

Avoid Scratching and Picking

  • Don’t not scratch, pick, or peel any scabs or flaking skin. Let the skin naturally shed during the healing process.

Follow up appointments

  • Attend any follow-up appointments scheduled by your provider. These appointments are essential for monitoring your progress and addressing concerns.

Hydrate

  • Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated, which can aid in the healing process.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

  • Refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activities, such as heavy exercise, for a few days after treatment.

Sleep with Elevated Head

  • Elevate head while sleeping for the first few nights post treatment to minimize swelling.

Report Any Concerns

Clearlift Laser Pre Appointment 

This procedure may trigger herpes sores. 

Avoid Retin-A, Obagi, hydroquinones, glyquin one week prior. 

Avoid caffeine 1-2 days prior, the best you can. 

Eye goggles/glasses must be worn during treatment.

Clearlift Laser Post Appointment 

Avoid heavy sweating, exercise, or excessive heat for 24 hours. 

Laser Hair Removal Pre Treatment

Do not wax, tweeze, have electrolysis, or hair plucking procedures 2-4 weeks prior to LHR.

Avoid direct sunlight, tanning booths or tanning lotions for 2 weeks, use sunscreen.

This procedure may trigger herpes sores. 

Avoid Retin-A, Obagi, hydroquinones, glyquin one week prior. 

Avoid caffeine 1-2 days prior as best you can. 

Eye goggles/glasses must be worn during treatment.

Shave the area to be treated the night before your procedure.

Laser Hair Removal Post Treatment

You may use aloe and/or moisturizer post-treatment as needed.

Please be diligent about sun exposure and sunscreen for at least 1-week post-treatment.

Avoid retinol and heavy exfoliation in treated areas for 1 week.

Tattoo Removal Pre Appointment 

Minimize sun exposure to the tattooed area for at least four weeks before your treatment. Tanned or sunburned skin can increase the risk of complications. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 if you need to be outside.

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment to keep your skin well-hydrated, which can aid in the healing process.

Do not apply any creams, lotions, or ointments to the tattooed area on the day of your appointment.

If the tattoo is in an area with a lot of hair, shave the area carefully the day before your appointment to ensure the laser can effectively target the ink.

Maintain a healthy diet and avoid alcohol and smoking, as these can affect your skin’s healing ability and overall health.

Inform your specialist of any medications you are currently taking, as certain medications can affect the treatment process.

Some providers may perform a test patch to see how your skin reacts to the laser. This can help determine the appropriate settings for your treatment.

On the day of your appointment, wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattooed area.

Discuss pain management options with your specialist. They might recommend a numbing cream to apply before the treatment or provide other pain relief methods during the procedure.

Arrange for any necessary post-treatment care and have supplies ready, such as ice packs, prescribed ointments, and non-stick bandages.

Tattoo Removal Post Appointment 

For the first 24 hours, keep the treated area clean and dry. Avoid washing it with water or applying any products unless specifically instructed by your provider.

After the first 24 hours, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment or a recommended healing ointment to the treated area to keep it moisturized and promote healing.

Initially, cover the treated area with a non-stick bandage or dressing to protect it from friction and irritation. Change the bandage as needed, usually once a day.

Protect the treated area from direct sun exposure. Use a high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on the treated area if you need to be outdoors. Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation or other complications.

Avoid picking, scratching, or rubbing the treated area, as this can increase the risk of scarring and infection.

Drink plenty of water to help your body heal and flush out the ink particles.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won’t rub against the treated area to prevent irritation and allow it to heal properly.

Keep an eye on the treated area for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or severe pain. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your provider immediately.

You may experience some discomfort, redness, and swelling after the treatment. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen can help manage pain, but avoid blood thinners like aspirin or ibuprofen.

Healing and complete removal can take time. Multiple sessions are usually required, and the treated area may take several weeks to fully heal between sessions.

For the first week or until the treated area is fully healed, avoid hot baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, and any other water activities that can introduce bacteria to the area.

All follow-up appointments as scheduled by your provider. They can monitor your progress and adjust the treatment plan if necessary.

Microneedling Pre Appointment 

Have an in-depth consultation with your provider to discuss your skin concerns, medical history, and any medications you are taking. This will help tailor the treatment to your needs.

Discontinue the use of retinoids, exfoliants, and products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other active ingredients for at least 3-5 days before your treatment. These can increase skin sensitivity.

Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks before your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 if you need to be outdoors.

Evening after till 7 days post:

CLEAN – Use a gentle cleanser and tepid water to cleanse the face for 72 hours post-treatment, and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area, and do not use a Clarisonic or other powered cleansing brushes for at least one week after your treatment.

HEAL – We recommend serum antioxidants post-treatment, as its properties are ideal to help heal the skin by soothing and lessening irritation.

Vampire Post Care Specific – 

A layer of Stratacel has been placed on your skin.  This allows you to place a light layer of mineral makeup if needed.  Ideally no makeup should be used until tomorrow.

Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

Avoid sun exposure for the next 24 hours.

No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

Evening after till 7 days post:

CLEAN – Use a gentle cleanser and tepid water to cleanse the face for 72 hours post-treatment, and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area, and do not use a Clarisonic or other powered cleansing brushes for at least one week after your treatment.

HYDRATE – Your skin may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic acid is an ideal ingredient you can use to hydrate and restore the skin back to perfect balance.

STIMULATE – As the skin starts to regenerate, collagen-stimulating peptides are ideal to maximize the effects of the stimulation already started by the microneedling.

Additional steps for A.M. routine:

SUNSCREEN– We recommend a chemical-free sunscreen. Keep in mind that you should continue to use a sunscreen everyday—not only the days following your procedure—as part of your skincare routine to protect your skin from sun damage and premature aging.

MAKEUP – Ideally mineral make-up. If using make-up brushes/sponges, please make sure they are clean.

After 1 week following treatment, client can return to regular skincare regimen. Retinol products are strongly suggested to use for optimal results.

Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days as well as excessive sun exposure for 10 days.*

Expect some skin peeling/sloughing for 2-5 days.  This is normal. 

Tempsure Pre Appointment 

For optimum treatment, hydrate by drinking plenty of water or hydrating fluids several days in advance.

Remove all makeup, including eye makeup, lotions or sunblock and wash facial area prior to treatment. Any preparations left on the skin will act as an impedance to the energy and will diminish the effects.

Wear comfortable clothing with no metal – no zippers, metal buttons etc.

For five to seven days prior to treatment, at the practitioner’s discretion, avoid therapies that may cause erythema (redness) or irritation such as Retin-A or products containing Isotetrinoin, glycolic and or salicylic acid.

The treatment area must be free of any open lesions or infections.

Avoid alcohol if possible.

Male clients should arrive freshly shaven in areas desired to be treated.
